Find more than geometric clashes

A federated model brings architecture, structure and building services into one review environment. The team can identify intersections, but also missing access, inadequate clearances, impossible drainage falls and service routes that conflict with ceilings or equipment replacement.

Priority should go to plant rooms, risers, corridors, typical toilets and other zones where multiple systems compete for limited space.

Create one accountable issue trail

Every coordination issue needs a clear location, description, owner, due date and closure evidence. Meetings alone do not provide a reliable record for later drawing release.

A controlled issue workflow helps teams distinguish design decisions from modelling tasks and ensures that resolved information reaches coordinated drawings used on site.

Give contractors buildable information

Coordination should improve installation, not merely produce a visually complete model. Routes must allow supports, joints, insulation, valves, testing points and practical trade sequence.

When the coordinated model, drawings and builders' work information agree, procurement and prefabrication decisions can be made with greater confidence.
